Playroom Progress

We have been slowly pecking away at the playroom.  Which started out look like this.....

I would say it’s about 90% complete. Most of the work left is decorating and prettifying (that’s a real word, spell check didn’t flag it. And spell check KNOWS). I don’t have a reveal yet but I will show some projects we’ve done and an in progress shot.

Art Display Area

Two cork boards from a garage sale ($1 each). Left over pink craft paint. I had planned on covering the cork with fabric but I realized it would be covered with drawings and photos so I saved myself the hassle and just painted it.

Dress-up area.
The only item I bought for this was a clothing rail (the lower one). Everything else we already owned.  We have a full length children’s mirror from ikea that is mounted on the other side of the closet. No picture of that because there is also a giant cardboard box of stuffed animal. Practical but not pretty.

Wall Gallery. $2 Ikea frames. Prints from oohmoon.com

And here is the in progress shot. This doesn’t show the whole room. I also have a large bookshelf, two recliners, the dress up area, and much more but it gives you an idea of how much more AWESOME PRETTY PINK BRIGHT FUN "COOOOLLLLLLL MAMA" it is.

Side by side. Dayum we have DIY skillz.

Floors

Well it was a long day but we have floors in the playroom! Excuse the poor quality picture it was taken at 10pm with no flash.

Now we just need to install new baseboards, paint the chair rail and crown molding and its decorating time! Here's a reminder of what it looked like after we closed and then after we pulled off the wallpaper and ripped out the carpet:

Playroom Plans

See this pile of ugliness? It’s being transformed into a playroom. A playroom with DOORS that I can SHUT. So hopefully when people pop-in I can just shut the playroom doors instead of apologizing for the fact that my living room looks like Santa’s bag exploded (His bag of TOYS. Pervert.)

The girls bedroom is going to be pink Pink PINK so I’m going multi-colour in the playroom. My inspiration is their existing toys/furniture.  We are painting the walls white on top and bamboo leaf by Behr on the bottom (G has informed me that the green is ugly and the white took too many coats). Here’s my inspiration board using items we already own.
Furniture and rug from Ikea. Play kitchen from kidkraft . Illustrations by Katie Moon. Paint by Behr.

Now I need some crap accessories to tie it all together. I have been collecting yard sale frames to paint bright pink. Some are going to frame the fabu Katie Moon prints. And some are going to be converted into fabric covered bulletin boards like this one from Bloggin with Bobbi

Curtains? I'm like this bargain beauties from Walmart.

Ikea has some cute curtains too. They also have some fun fabrics. Maybe its time to dust off my sewing machine and make some curtains!

If I go the DIY route there are a bajillion great fabrics I could use. Look at these fun ones I found on etsy.

Wash and scrape

This post will be short on words and big on pictures. My nails are worn to nubs and it hurts to type. With the help of some AWESOME friends we got a lot done today. We removed miles of wallpaper, some carpet and power washed a lot. Here's the proof!

And for my Canadian peeps who don't have concrete subfloors check out how nasty it is to remove carpet. The carpet tacks are nailed INTO the concrete. So you pry those suckers up, pull all the concrete nails and then fill the holes.

We're slowly saying goodbye to 1998!

Playroom Inspiration

My inspiration for the playroom is the girls toys. Pink Red Green Orange! While searching etsy for some art to put in the playroom I came across a FABULOUS artist Katie Moon. She has a blog where she gives away one free children's illustration a day http://oohmoon.com/ . After 24 hours you can buy them (super cheap!)  I fell in love with the fairy tale series and my awesome brother (SHOUT OUT TO PSACK!) bought it for the girls

Since the girls are so bored when we are at the house working my goal is to get the playroom in usable condition so they have somewhere to chill while we clean/paint/scrap/sand.
